how we started Dave's Fish Stand

Here is our story. Everything is hand caught, hand drawn, and hand packed all in house.

The Start

Born and raised in Utah

Growing up at the base of the Wasatch Mountains in Northern Utah, I learned how to fish, camp, and hike at a young age. Having a Father that enjoyed the outdoors created fun memories of fishing in local Utah lakes such as Pineview, Lost Creek, Echo, and East Canyon Reservoirs on the shore and on our 14’ aluminum boat.

Portland, Maine

The Docks

Fast forward to 2017 when I lived outside of Portland, Maine, I fell in love with the city and culture. One of my favorite parts of Portland was being down on the docks. The boats, bustling fish markets with the shouting and fish throwing, harbor seals swimming nearby, sun baked buoys, and the smell of fish everywhere resonated with me. I found myself trying to spend as much time as I could around the docks.

Daddy Time

Now that I am a father to three kids in Northern Utah, I try to instill my love of the outdoors into my kids. Being twenty five minutes away from the Wasatch Mountains, it makes it easy to fish, camp, hike, backpack, and ski with them. Watching my kids begin to learn, respect, and love the outdoors has been one of the most rewarding experiences.

Our Sticker Cooler

My love of stickers started when my wife and I bought our green Coleman steel belted cooler back in 2018. Most couples collect fridge magnets or shot glasses. We decided to collect stickers from the places we adventured to and then slap them on our cooler. What started as a fun idea when we went somewhere new, has now turned into a serious debate as we have nearly run out of real estate on our cooler.

Summer 2026

The Workbench That Started It All

In the summer of 2026, I noticed an old workbench in a shed that was about to be demolished and it all came together. What if I created Utah’s best fish market…with a twist? With my wife by my side, we are setting off on this new adventure. She draws the fish and we sell them at our stand and here on our site. Follow along on Tik Tok to see new posts every day of what’s new and what we’re up to.

That's the whole story: she draws every fish, I press and pack them, and together we run the counter.
