The Build

Workbench to Fish Market

sawdust and all

See how we turned a nearly demolished workbench and a few screws into the worlds greatest fish market...with a twist. Are you along for the ride?

Why a fish stand

Everyone needs a fish sticker in their life

It started as a silly joke. What if vinyl stickers were sold like fresh fish, weighed out on ice, priced on a painted board, hollered about across a mobile market? Then it stopped being a joke and started with an old workbench in a shed.

I rescued the workbench, evicted wasps, bolted on wheels, installed a roof, my wife draws each fish herself, and I find the homes for each of our fishies. The whole messy build lives on TikTok, splinters and all.

Plank by Plank

The build, step by step

The rescue

Saved the Work Bench

From total destruction. Found it in a shed that was about to be demolished, hauled it out before it met the dumpster, and knew right away it was the one.

Turf war

Fought off Wasps

Fish and wasps don’t get along. Evicted a nest (or four) before I could even touch the wood without a battle erupting. Don't worry, I was only stung three times haha.

Mobility

Wheels Installed

Welcome sweet mobility. Bolted on a set of heavy-duty casters so the stand could roll out front on market day and roll back into the garage at night.

Shade, finally

Added the Tin Roof

Having no shade was the fish's biggest complaint. Screwed on a tin roof so the catch (and I) could survive an afternoon in the sun.

The finishing touch

Hung Buoys and a Fish Net

It's official! Strung up a few buoys and draped a fish net across the front, and the stand finally looked like, well, a fish stand.

The build's never really finished. There's always another shelf, another batch, another fish to add to the counter.
